Intensive Study

Our Intensive Study program is for dancers who want serious training with high standards of commitment and achievement. These classes are placed by audition in the spring each year. This program does not require participation in dance competitions, though many Intensive Study dancers are part of our Competitive Company.

Here are some frequently asked questions about our Intensive Study Dance Program.

  • Those interested in a more challenging and demanding track of dance classes.
  • You do not need to be “invited” to audition. If you have the desire, you should come to the audition!
  • Skill
  • Future potential
  • Passion, dedication, positivity and willingness to learn
  • Classes are placed by skill level, not by age (our recreational program is placed by age).
  • All of the Intensive Study (IS) classes have prerequisite classes. This means that there are required classes that build strength and technique, and will help you flourish as dancers.
  • We also have an attendance policy that we strictly adhere to.
  • Minimum: 3 days a week
  • Maximum: 5 days a week
  • The cost per class for Intensive Study classes is the same as recreational classes. (Classes at GLDA are charged by the length of the class, not by the level of the class.)
  • However, you must take the required number of classes.
  • You may choose which disciplines of dance you would like to audition for. Almost all require that students take ballet twice a week.
  • Intensive Study (IS) dancers are NOT required to participate in dance competitions, although many do.
  • Our Full-Time Dance Company is solely comprised of our Intensive Study dancers.
  • The auditions for Intensive Study and Company are the same. You will indicate on your audition form if you are interested in being considered for Company as well.
